The first job I converted after an event, becoming an overseas startup's connection to India and shaping how it would grow here, against players like Wix.
Context
I converted this job after attending an event called the Delivering Change Forum, where I worked with people from overseas. I became their connection with India: a startup that wanted to grow here, and I shaped the path. The company wanted to build websites and pages for small businesses, competing with Wix, so I made sure we stayed in the absolute reality of India and understood the kinds of businesses the country actually needed.
What I did
Converted the opportunity after the Delivering Change Forum and worked with an overseas team.
Acted as the startup's connection to the Indian market.
Shaped the India growth path for a website and page builder for small businesses.
Grounded the product in the real needs of Indian small businesses, against competitors like Wix.
In my own words
The honest version.
This was the first time I converted a job by going out and meeting people at an event rather than applying. Being the India connection for a foreign team taught me how differently a product has to be built for the real conditions of this market, not the version of India people imagine from the outside.
